The Versalam series of roll laminators (13-in and 27-in widths) are well regarded in the graphics industry as versatile workhorses well suited for two side lamination and encapsulation. However, a number of contacts in the digital printing industry have told me they are using these models for single-sided applications as well. As it turns out, both Versalam laminators are equipped with several features that can help optimize single-side jobs not usually found on laminators at this price point.

1) The adjustable de-curling bar behind the back roll gives operators and additional tool for controlling film curl.
2) Adhesive transfer can be minimized by turning off the heat on the bottom heat/nip roll.
3) The silicone coating on the bottom heat/nip roll also contributes to eliminating adhesive transfer or build-up.

In addition, many Versalam series customers report success by using nylon film for single-side lamination jobs.

DigiUltrabind Automatic Perfect Binder
The DigiUltrabind offers one pass binding technology, which allows production cycles up to 250 times per hour (an average operator produces about 200 to 250 books per hour). Books are placed in the clamp on the left and pass through the chipper and glue and end at the right picking up the cover. The DigiUltrabind requires little adjustment, but the spine pressure can be adjusted for a square or round spine. The notching, adhesive application and nipper clamping are all automatic. The only thing the operator needs to do is place a cover into position. Another unique feature of the DigiUltrabind commonly found on more expensive binders is its dynamic nipper table which automatically senses and adjusts to the size of the book and has side gluing for stronger and lasting cover binding.
